Sure, you are free to do what you choose with the equity in your own home, but these are public funds and a public building and the community deserves to know EXACTLY what is going to be done with them ahead of time. Doing nothing until an acceptable plan is in place (for another year most likely) is better than completely losing this historic building and what is provides to our community. There is no guarantee what will be done with Polk (or any other schools) other than the exact words on the ballot which are vague, to say the least. <br /> These are not my words, but said better than I could say it: "I've seen bonds come and go and typically - somehow - portions (often large) of the funds get used for something other than what we were told they would be used for. It's happened in the county, city, and in the schools. It's happened enough that I no longer trust these issues when they all too often come along. Any use of bond money - I believe - needs to be pinned down and documented such that the monies may only be used in the ways we were told they would be used with ZERO leeway!"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03753296165170035492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583992405568389357.post-51813358433906960072017-10-23T07:41:57.952-07:002017-10-23T07:41:57.952-07:00SongMom,

If the School District never used any of the bond funds that were approved by the voters, then no debt or interest would be incurred. The money has to be used first in order for taxpayers to foot the interest bill. So, in my opinion it would be appropriate for the school district to get the line of credit in preparation for a discussion about what to do with Polk. The community will offer its input and a decision made. That works great with your personal loan, but is irresponsible with taxpayer money. No, it doesn’t increase our tax but it does still use taxes.SongMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17614836549818149271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5583992405568389357.post-89051202953367339282017-10-21T16:39:56.110-07:002017-10-21T16:39:56.110-07:00I believe the school board knows what kind of pred...I believe the school board knows what kind of predicament they are in with Polk. But, to do nothing is not a reasonable option in my opinon. My bank recently issued me a home equity line of credit. I told them I wanted to spend it some some things sometime in the future. They issued the loan to me. The school district is asking the same thing. The bond money is a line of credit that can be drawn on as the need for it arises. Even though Polk's final plans have not been drafted, we know that money will need to be spent on whatever solution is determined to be best. That determination will involve the community. In a worst case scenario where nothing happens, the district simply doesn't draw down the money for that project and our tax burden is made less. For this reason, I support the bond. That may be razing it and building new (which I don't support), adding a like art deco addition (which I do support), or a complete restoration like it is (which doesn't make sense to me). So, your claim that they want to just raze the school is incorrect. The school board is elected and as an elected body they have an interest in listening to the majority of voices in the Polk area. Whatever that majority wants will most likely happen.
